Assess Your Culture

Safety first.

Age-old wisdom and a fundamental truth of healthy work culture.

In an unsafe environment, operational IQ drops by half.

When people experience fear from events such as a pandemic, war, social and political unrest, economic volatility, or toxicity in the workplace, the rational part of our brain quiets down and our operating IQ drops to 50-70 points. This is half of the operating IQ when we are in a calm state, which is between 100 - 120.

Half.

How safe is your company culture?

The first step in building better culture—and seeing the business results you crave—is understanding your organization’s levels of safety.

When I am talking about safety - the type of safety that allows people to think, collaborate and innovate, I am referring to three types of safety: physical safety, emotional safety, and psychological safety.

When people have high enough levels of safety in these three ways, they can operate at the highest IQ and are capable of analytical thinking, creative insight, and collaborative problem-solving.

Physical Safety - Do employees feel that they are valued, respected, and included at work? Or do they experience discrimination and harassment?

Emotional Safety - Do people feel comfortable talking about their fears and feelings?

Psychological Safety - Are employees speaking up, admitting mistakes, offering new ideas, and engaging in productive conflict?

The Culture Assessment

We’ll take a deep dive into your company culture in order to customize the assessment to your business, using the language your people already speak.

Step 1: Preparation

We will begin by assembling a culture assessment committee to lead the project. This team will comprise a cross-section of staff from a range of levels and functions. In this way, the assessment can be designed with input from a variety of opinions and perspectives.

Step 2: Culture Study

Through observation, interviews, and communications analysis, we’ll take a deep dive into your company culture in order to customize the assessment to your business, using the language your people already speak.

Step 3: Safety Assessment Creation

We’ll co-create the definitive assessment of your company’s level of safety across physical, emotional, and psychological safety and across demographics, roles, seniority, and department.

Step 4: Run the Safety Assessment

We’ll work with you to run the assessment across your organization. We’ll provide you with done-for-you communication scripts and guides to encourage assessment participation while reducing survey fatigue.

Step 5: Results and Readout

We’ll analyze the data and provide you with a results readout that will help you understand the drivers of your safety scores and their impact on your employee experience.

You’ll get actionable evidence-based recommendations for increasing the levels of safety in your organization.
